Working Out in the Summer Heat

Hydration and sunscreen are a MUST while working out in the summer heat. With temperatures rising, it can be extremely dangerous. Check out these tips to make your summer workout safer!

1. Wear Sunscreen: Before you lace up your running shoes, make sure and apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before you go outside. These 15 minutes give your body time to absorb the sunscreen to protect you! Make sure your sunscreen can handle the sweat, too!

2. Drink Plenty of Water: While you are working out in the summer heat, you will sweat A LOT! It is important to drink plenty of water before you go outside and throughout your workout. Make sure you get enough water. Carry a water bottle with you throughout your whole workout. We, at Live Streaming Fitness, cannot stress enough how important this is to your health.

3. Wear Protective Clothing: Hats, sunglasses, and sweat wicking clothing are perfect for summertime Workouts. These sweat wicking clothes (www.lululemon.com) would be great for a sunny day!

4. Early Mornings or Evenings: Instead of working out in the middle of the day, try working out early in the morning or after the sun has set. It’s a great way to start or end your day, and you avoid the midday heat!

5. Add Mileage and Intensity Gradually: Take your workouts easy at first in order to give yourself time to get used to the heat. Instead of running, try jogging or just walking at first. As you adapt to the heat, add mileage and intensity!

6. Sunglasses: Like we mentioned earlier, wearing sunglasses are a must while you’re outside.! It is important to protect your eyes from the sun. Tired of sweat making them fall down your face? Try adding baby powder on the bridge of your nose to prevent your glasses from slipping off!

7. Shaded Area: If you want to avoid direct sunlight, workout in a shaded area or on a cloudy day! Try finding a park with a lot of trees to help you stay cool!

8. Listen to Your Body: During your workout, if you begin to feel sick, dizzy, lightheaded, etc. STOP immediately! This could lead to heat strokes, passing out, or muscle cramps. So, take it slow and don’t push yourself too hard! Find a way to cool yourself down and take deep breaths until you feel like you can go back home.

Summer is a great time to get out and be active! However, safety is our number one concern to all our members! So before you hit the summer heat, just be sure to remember these safety tips!
